Le prieuré Saint-Martin est fondé en 1050 par Guy Ier de Laval et dépendait de l’abbaye de Marmoutier. Elle se trouvait alors au milieu d’un marécage, au nord de la ville, sur la route entre Rennes et Le Mans.  Il deviendra le centre d’un faubourg Saint-Martin qui va se développer peu à peu autour. Elle abrite des peintures murales qui datent du XIIe jusqu’au XVIIe siècle. Transformé en caserne durant la Révolution française, elle est rachetée par le chanoine Le Segrétain en 1879 qui la restaure et l’église devient la chapelle de l’aumônerie militaire. Elle est désormais fermée pour des raisons de sécurité.

The priory of Saint-Martin was founded in 1050 by Guy I de Laval and depended on the abbey of Marmoutier. It was located in the middle of a marsh to the north of the town, on the road between Rennes and Le Mans. It was to become the centre of the Saint-Martin suburb, which gradually grew up around it. It houses murals dating from the 12th to 17th centuries. Transformed into barracks during the French Revolution, it was bought by Canon Le Segrétain in 1879, who restored it and the church became the chapel of the military chaplaincy. It is now closed for security reasons.
