Il y avait sans doute une église Saint-Martin à Étampes durant le haut-Moyen-âge, dont Clovis serait, selon certains, le fondateur. Elle aurait été ravagée lors des invasions normandes aux IXe et Xe siècles. L’église Saint-Martin d’Étampes est une ancienne collégiale construite entre 1142 et 1170. Une travée est ajoutée en 1213. Le clocher-porche est édifié en 1530, et est penché à cause d’un tassement de terrain. L’église Saint-Martin a un plan en croix-latine avec une nef de quatre travées, flanquée de deux bas-côtés, un chœur à chevet semi-circulaire avec trois chapelles rayonnantes et un clocher est hors-œuvre.

La gare d’Étampes porte le nom de Saint-Martin d’Étampes.

There was probably a Saint-Martin church in Étampes during the High Middle Ages, of which Clovis was, according to some, the founder. It would have been ravaged during the Norman invasions in the 9th and 10th centuries. The church of Saint-Martin d’Étampes is a former collegiate church built between 1142 and 1170. A span was added in 1213. The bell tower-porch was built in 1530, and is tilted due to a settling of the ground. The Saint-Martin church has a Latin cross plan with a nave of four bays, flanked by two aisles, a semi-circular apse choir with three radiating chapels and a bell tower.

The Saint-Martin church was listed as a Historic Monument in 1909. PA00087895
