L’histoire de la fontaine est située devant le portail ouest de la cathédrale de Bonn et à la paroisse de Saint-Martin, dont l’histoire est liée, tout comme tradition des processions de Saint-Martin avec des lanternes, des torches, de la musique et des oies.

En 1958, la restauration de la fontaine historique par un tailleur de pierre dans le Westerwald et la fonderie d’art en bronze Peter May à Cologne a coûté environ 30 000 marks ; un bon tiers de cette somme était perçu par le comité Martins lui-même, le reste étant payé par la ville de Bonn et l’association régionale.

In 1958, the restoration of the historic fountain by a stonemason in the Westerwald and the bronze art foundry Peter May in Cologne cost around 30,000 marks; a good third of this sum was collected by the Martins committee itself, the rest being paid by the city of Bonn and the regional association.
