La ville de San Martino del Carso est fondée au XVe siècle et sans doute qu’une église dédiée à saint Martin est construite à ce moment-là. Détruite lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, elle est reconstruite à la fin du conflit dans le style néo-roman. Le fronton accueille une représentation de saint martin en évêque, mitré, tenant sa crosse dans la main gauche et bénissant de la main droite, sur fond doré.

Un petit oratoire, à l’entrée de la ville, a un poème écrit par Giuseppe Ungaretti le 27 août 1916.

 

The town of San Martino del Carso was founded in the 15th century, and it is likely that a church dedicated to Saint Martin was built at that time. Destroyed during the First World War, it was rebuilt at the end of the conflict in the neo-Romanesque style. The pediment features a representation of Saint Martin as a bishop, mitred, holding his crozier in his left hand and blessing with his right, against a gilded background.

A small oratory at the entrance to the town has a poem written by Giuseppe Ungaretti on 27 August 1916.
