L’église Saint-Martin de Marthon est construite au XIIe siècle dans le style roman. Elle dépendait pourtant de l’abbaye de Saint-Yrieix -la-Perche dans l’actuel département de la Haute-Vienne. Elle présente un plan en croix latine, avec une nef, un transept et un chœur à chevet plat. Les murs extérieurs de la nef, contrebutés de contreforts, sont rythmés d’arcatures aveugles. Des enfeus funéraires, comprenant parfois encore des sarcophages, ont été ménagés à la base des murs pour les défunts aristocrates. L’angle entre la nef et le bras sud du transept présente un modillon médiéval figurant deux personnages assis serrés l’un contre l’autre. Le clocher monumental, de souche carrée, est orné d’arcades aveugles et de baies jumelées. L’église est inscrite aux Monuments historiques le 15 mai 1925 PA00104414
L’église conserve une tableau figurant une charité de saint Martin. Ce dernier est représenté en soldat casqué, à cheval, en train de couper son manteau rouge pour le donner au mendiant, à demi-nu, debout devant lui. La scène se déroule dans un décor boisé et non devant l’enceinte fortifiée d’Amiens.
The Saint-Martin de Marthon church was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style. However, it depended on the abbey of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in the current department of Haute-Vienne. It has a Latin cross plan, with a nave, a transept and a choir with a flat apse. The exterior walls of the nave, supported by buttresses, are punctuated by blind arcades. Burial vaults, sometimes still including sarcophagi, were set up at the base of the walls for the deceased aristocrats. The angle between the nave and the south arm of the transept has a medieval modillion depicting two figures seated close together. The monumental, square-shaped bell tower is adorned with blind arcades and twin bays. The church is listed as a Historic Monument on May 15, 1925 PA00104414
The church retains a painting depicting a charity of Saint Martin. The latter is represented as a helmeted soldier, on horseback, cutting off his red coat to give it to the beggar, half-naked, standing in front of him. The scene takes place in a wooded setting and not in front of the fortified walls of Amiens.
