L’église Saint-Martin de Branches apparaît au VIIe siècle comme une dépendance de l’abbaye Saint-Germain d’Auxerre. Elle appartient au monastère de La Charité-sur-Loire vers l’an Mil. Un prieuré est fondé en 1220 par Guillaume de Seignelay, évêque d’Auxerre, qui le donne à l’abbaye du Grand-Saint-Bernard de Montjoux. Le prieuré est démantelé durant la Révolution française. Il n’en reste que l’église.

L’église Saint-Martin est composée d’une nef unique au XIIe siècle. Celle-ci est reconstruite au XVe siècle, mais garde la moitié sud d’origine, avec les baies romanes. Le chœur est construit au XVe siècle, avec des stalles du siècle suivant.

L’intérieur de l’église est couvert de fresque médiévales.

The church of Saint-Martin de Branches appeared in the 7th century as a dependency of the abbey of Saint-Germain in Auxerre. It belonged to the monastery of La Charité-sur-Loire around the year 1000. A priory was founded in 1220 by Guillaume de Seignelay, bishop of Auxerre, who gave it to the abbey of Grand-Saint-Bernard in Montjoux. The priory was dismantled during the French Revolution. Only the church remains.

The church of Saint-Martin was composed of a single nave in the 12th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th century, but kept the original southern half, with the Romanesque bays. The choir was built in the 15th century, with stalls from the following century.

The interior of the church is covered with medieval frescoes.
