L’église Saint-Martin de Bergues abrite un vitrail représentant une charité de saint Martin.

Le vitrail date des années 1950, il a été réalisé par Max Ingrand, comme l’ensemble des vitraux de l’église.

La scène s’étale sur 24 sections dont 20 carrées et 4 en arc brisés. Les couleurs sont vives à dominante jaune et rouge. Saint Martin est représenté à cheval avec une auréole. Il porte son épée à la main droite et coupe la cape derrière le bras gauche.

Le mendiant, quant à lui, est agenouillé, désigne Martin du doigt et est tout de blanc vêtu.

On peut distinguer sur la gauche un oiseau posé sur une branche et en arrière-plan, derrière la tête du cheval, les « Portes d’Amiens ».

The church of Saint-Martin de Béthisy-Saint-Martin is mentioned in the deed of donation of the property of Saint-Pierre de Béthisy by Charles the Bald to the abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Morienval in 907.

Nothing remains of this first church. The oldest part of the present building is the second ribbed vault which dates from the middle of the 12th century. The choir was extended in the 13th century and the building became Gothic. The expansion of the church was interrupted by the Hundred Years’ War and resumed at the end of the 15th century with the installation of vaults in the flamboyant Gothic style.

The building underwent several enlargement and repair campaigns until the 19th century. It was classified as a Historic Monument by decree on 24 September 1931.
