La statue se trouve dans les jardins de l’ancien presbytère de Lerné, à l’entrée du Bourg. Elle pèse 11 tonnes et est haute de 4 mètres. La commune avait érigée une première statue géante en 1855 qui fut reproduite à l’identique pour la remplacer. Ayant été décapitée par un violent orage le 6 août 1931, elle fut remplacée par une autre statue en fonte, vite victime des outrage du temps.

La ville de Lerné a une autre statue de saint Martin sur la route de Candes et l’église du village lui est dédié.

 

The statue is located in the gardens of the former presbytery of Lerné, at the entrance to the village. It weighs 11 tons and is 4 metres high. The commune had erected a first giant statue in 1855 which was reproduced identically to replace it. Having been decapitated by a violent storm on 6 August 1931, it was replaced by another cast iron statue, which soon fell victim to the ravages of time.

The town of Lerné has another statue of St Martin on the road to Candes and the village church is dedicated to him.
