Le palais épiscopal de Szombathely a été construit à la fin du XVIIIe siècle à la demande de János Szily, premier évêque du diocèse , au moment de la création de ce dernier par Marie-Thérèse d’Autriche. La pièce principale conserve une fresque, œuvre du peintre autrichien Franz Anton Maulbertsch, intitulée Allégorie de la Divine Providence, créée en 1783. Saint Martin est représenté en évêque, habillé en doré, mitré et barbu, à droite de la fresque.

The bishop’s palace in Szombathely was built at the end of the 18th century at the request of János Szily, the diocese’s first bishop, when the diocese was created by Maria Theresa of Austria. The main room contains a fresco by the Austrian painter Franz Anton Maulbertsch, entitled Allegory of Divine Providence, created in 1783. Saint Martin is depicted as a bishop, dressed in gold, mitred and bearded, on the right of the fresco.
