Une première église aurait été construite par saint Winoc, à la fin du VIIe siècle. Détruite par les Normands. Reconstruite, elle est de nouveau saccagée par les guerres successives.

L’actuelle église Saint-Martin de Wormhout est construite entre 1613 et 1616 dans le style ogives flamand. C’est une « hallekerque », c’est-à-dire une église-halle, en brique beige.

Deux vitraux du XVIIe siècle présentent saint Winoc pour le premier et la messe de Saint Martin pour le deuxième.

L’église est réputée pour le miracle de Notre-Dame des Larmes. Le 23 avril 1406, un clerc découvre le manteau recouvrant la statue de la Vierge au sol. Il le remet mais celui-ci fini systématiquement par terre, le visage de la Vierge exprimant une forte douleur.

A first church is said to have been built by Saint Winoc at the end of the 7th century. Destroyed by the Normans. Rebuilt, it was again sacked by successive wars.

The present-day Saint Martin’s Church in Wormhout was built between 1613 and 1616 in the Flemish ogival style. It is a « hallekerque », i.e. a hall church, made of beige brick.

Two 17th century stained glass windows show Saint Winoc in the first one and the mass of Saint Martin in the second one.

The church is famous for the miracle of Our Lady of Tears. On 23 April 1406, a cleric discovered the cloak covering the statue of the Virgin on the ground. He put it back on but it systematically ended up on the floor, with the Virgin’s face expressing great pain.
