L’église Saint-Martin de Saint-Martin-du-Tertre, à côté de Sens, dans l’Yonne, est construite en 1374 sur le lieu d’un édifice plus ancien. En 1769, l’archevêque de Sens, Mgr de Luynes, décide sa reconstruction, mais la population s’y oppose, voulant que l’église soit plus proche des habitations. Les outils et les matériaux sont volés et le chantier est dégradé. Après l’arrestation et l’emprisonnement des « fauteurs de trouble », l’église est achevée en 1779.

The church of Saint-Martin in Saint-Martin-du-Tertre, near Sens in the Yonne department, was built in 1374 on the site of an older building. In 1769, the Archbishop of Sens, Mgr de Luynes, decided to rebuild it, but the local population was opposed to the idea, wanting the church to be closer to their homes. Tools and materials were stolen and the building site was damaged. After the « troublemakers » were arrested and imprisoned, the church was completed in 1779.
