L’église actuelle date du XVIe siècle mais une église Saint Martin existait déjà au XIIIe puisque en 1226 l’évêque de la ville la confie aux dominicains nouvellement arrivés.

L’édifice actuel est érigé en 1516 sur les fondations de l’ancienne église, dans le style gothique tardif. Elle a, depuis, été de nombreuses fois réparée suite a diverses destructions, à cause des incendies et des guerres. La tour est démolie en raison du risque d’effondrement en 1745 et l’église a été transformée en entrepôt durant l’occupation allemande de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. L’ensemble a été reconstruit entre 1950 et 1954. L’église possède un tympan martinien représentant la charité.

 

The present church dates from the 16th century, but a church of St. Martin already existed in the 13th century, since in 1226 the bishop of the town entrusted it to the newly arrived Dominicans.

The present building was erected in 1516 on the foundations of the old church, in the late Gothic style. Since then, it has been repaired many times due to various destructions, fires and wars. The tower was demolished due to the risk of collapse in 1745 and the church was turned into a warehouse during the German occupation in the Second World War. The whole complex was rebuilt between 1950 and 1954. The church has a Martinian tympanum representing charity.
