L’église Saint-Martin de Lerné a été construite à la fin du XIIè ou au début XIIIè siècle. Elle a été remaniée au XVIè siècle. Elle est en calcaire et en pierre de taille, elle a un plan allongé. Le chœur et l’abside sont de style angevin Elle possède des peintures et des sculptures.
L’église possède une statue en bois d’un saint évêque, du XVIIè siècle, classée Monument Historique ; un vitrail de saint Martin en évêque de Tours ; elle possédait une bannière avec au recto, la charité de saint Martin et au verso, la Vierge Marie, mais celle-ci a été récupérée par des particuliers lorsque la paroisse n’en voulait plus.
Dans le vitrail, saint Martin est représenté en évêque. Il est nimbé et mitré. Il est représenté dans une niche portant un livre dans la main droite, sa crosse d’évêque dans la gauche. Ses vêtements sont rouges et violet. La niche est entourée de formes géométriques de couleurs claires. A ses pieds est écrit : Scs MARTINUS.
La bannière qui se trouvait dans l’église Saint-Martin mais a été récupérée par des particuliers lorsque la paroisse n’en voulait plus. C’est une bannière de la fin du XIXe siècle, en tissus et en carton. Au recto de la bannière est représentée une Charité, et au verso, la Vierge Marie. La bannière est de couleur rouge et or. Les personnages, saint Martin, le pauvre, et le cheval sont de couleur claire. La chlamyde, que saint Martin coupe en deux, est rouge, et est en relief par rapporte au reste de la bannière.
L’église est classée Monument Historique par arrêté du 11 septembre 1985. PA00097805
Une statue de saint Martin se trouve dans l’ancien presbytère et une autre se trouve sur une borne du chemin de saint Martin de Candes-Saint-Martin à Tours.
The church of Saint-Martin de Lerné was built at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century. It was redesigned in the 16th century. It is made of limestone and ashlar and has an elongated plan. The choir and the apse are in the Angevin style.
The church has a wooden statue of a holy bishop, from the 17th century, classified as a Historic Monument; a stained glass window of Saint Martin as bishop of Tours; it had a banner with the charity of Saint Martin on the front and the Virgin Mary on the back, but this was recovered by private individuals when the parish no longer wanted it.
In the stained glass window, St Martin is represented as a bishop. He is nimbed and mitred. He is shown in a niche with a book in his right hand and his bishop’s crook in his left. His clothes are red and purple. The niche is surrounded by light-coloured geometric shapes. At his feet is written: Scs MARTINUS.
The banner that was in the church of St. Martin but was recovered by private individuals when the parish no longer wanted it. It is a banner from the end of the 19th century, made of fabric and cardboard. On the front of the banner is a picture of Charity, and on the back is the Virgin Mary. The banner is red and gold. The figures, St Martin, the poor man and the horse are light-coloured. The chlamydia, which Saint Martin cuts in half, is red, and is in relief compared to the rest of the banner.
The church is classified as a historical monument by decree of 11 September 1985. PA00097805
A statue of Saint Martin can be found in the former presbytery and another is on a milestone on the Saint Martin’s Way from Candes-Saint-Martin to Tours.
