Cette église est une commande de l’archevêque de Tours, Mgr. Joseph-Hippolyte Guibert, pour remplacer une ancienne église Saint Martin dont on ne sait rien si ce n’est qu’elle existait à la fin du XIVè siècle et qu’elle a été entièrement détruite en 1875 pour être remplacée par celle-ci. Elle est inaugurée en 1877.

La nef est formée de trois travées de style gothique angevin. Deux transepts avec deux coupoles domicales et demie de même style, une demi coupole pour l’abside et une coupole très nervurée pour le chœur.

Ce vitrail se trouve à la droite du chœur.  Il a été réalisé à Tours par Julien Fournier, en 1882. Saint Martin figure en archévêque, nimbé et mitré. Il est vêtu d’une chasuble bleue, d’un dalmatique rouge et d’une aube violette. Il tient sa crosse dans la main gauche, tandis que la main droite tient un bandeau sur lequel est écrit : « HIC EST MARTINUS ELECTUS DEI PONTIFEX ».

Dans la partie inférieure du vitrail est représentée une scène de Charité.  Elle se déroule en hiver. Saint Martin est vêtu en cavalier romain. Il est auréolé. Ici, il est sur un cheval de couleur marron. Il coupe son manteau pour en donner une partie au pauvre. Le pauvre est à moitié à assis par terre. Il est à demi nu et porte un fardeau de bois sur son dos. En arrière plan on peu remarquer l’enceinte de la vile d’Amiens.

 

This church was commissioned by the Archbishop of Tours, Mgr. Joseph-Hippolyte Guibert, to replace an old church of Saint Martin, of which nothing is known except that it existed at the end of the 14th century and that it was completely destroyed in 1875 to be replaced by this one. It was inaugurated in 1877.

The nave has three bays in the Angevin Gothic style. Two transepts with two and a half domed domes in the same style, a half dome for the apse and a highly ribbed dome for the choir.

This stained glass window is on the right of the choir. It was made in Tours by Julien Fournier in 1882. Saint Martin is shown as an archbishop, nimbed and mitred. He is dressed in a blue chasuble, a red dalmatic and a purple alb. He holds his crozier in his left hand, while his right hand holds a band on which is written: « HIC EST MARTINUS ELECTUS DEI PONTIFEX ».

In the lower part of the window is a scene of Charity. It takes place in winter. Saint Martin is dressed as a Roman horseman. He is haloed. Here he is on a brown horse. He cuts off his cloak and gives part of it to the poor. The poor man is half sitting on the ground. He is half naked and carries a wooden burden on his back. In the background you can see the city walls of Amiens.
