Au VIIe siècle, un prieuré dédié à saint Martin, de cent cinquante moines, était installé le long de la Gère. L’édifice actuel a été construit au XIXe siècle, dans une imitation du style roman.

Un projet de destruction par la municipalité a été envisagé en 1973, afin de construire un centre œcuménique. Mais la population s’y est opposée et font appel à Maurice Druon, alors ministre des Affaires culturelles. Ce dernier fait classer l’église aux Monuments historiques afin qu’elle ne soit pas détruite.

L’église conserve des peintures murales représentant des scènes d’eucharistie, comme la Cène ou la multiplication des pains, peintes par Maurice Denis.

In the 7th century, a priory dedicated to Saint Martin, with one hundred and fifty monks, was established along the Gère. The present building was built in the 19th century in imitation of the Romanesque style.

In 1973, the municipality planned to demolish it in order to build an ecumenical centre. But the population was opposed to this and appealed to Maurice Druon, then Minister of Cultural Affairs. He had the church classified as a historical monument so that it would not be destroyed.

The church still has murals depicting scenes of the Eucharist, such as the Last Supper and the multiplication of the loaves, painted by Maurice Denis.
