L’église Saint-Martin d’Artonne est une ancienne collégiale fondée par Guillaume de Thiers en 1048. C’est un chapitre de douze chanoines installé à l’endroit d’une ancienne église du VIIe-VIIIe siècle.

L’édifice est composé d’une nef avec deux travées et bas-côtés, de transepts, appartenant chacun à l’église primitive. Le chœur et le chevet datent, eux, du XIIe siècle. La salle capitulaire est construite au XIXe siècle. Il y avait un clocher, mais celui-ci a été détruit durant la Révolution française, tout comme les statues, le mobilier et le trésor. Elle devient alors Temple de la Raison puis carrière de salpêtre. Trois cloches n’ont pas été fondues. Parmi elles, une, datée de 1481, est dédiée à saint Martin.

The church of Saint-Martin d’Artonne is a former collegiate church founded by Guillaume de Thiers in 1048. It is a chapter of twelve canons installed on the site of an ancient church from the 7th to the 18th century.

The building consists of a nave with two bays and aisles, and transepts, each belonging to the original church. The choir and the chevet date from the 12th century. The chapter house was built in the 19th century. There was a bell tower, but it was destroyed during the French Revolution, as were the statues, furniture and treasure. It then became a Temple of Reason and then a saltpetre quarry. Three bells were not melted down. One of them, dated 1481, is dedicated to Saint Martin.

The church was listed as a Historic Monument in 1886. PA00091870
