L’église Saint-Martin de Brest est construite entre 1865 et 1877 dans le nouveau quartier de Brest, qui prend alors le nom d’Extension ou d’Annexion, et qui s’appelle désormais Saint-Martin, du nom de l’église.

L’église Saint-Martin est construite dans le style néo-roman par les architectes Édouard Boucher de Perthes et Jourdan de la Passadière. Elle est dédicacée à saint Martin en hommage au maire de Brest Hyacinthe-Martin Bizet.
