Selon la tradition locale, saint Martin passa ici avec sur le dos une hotte emplie de terre. La hotte se déchira et la terre tomba sur le sol, ce qui créa la butte.

La butte est longue de 150 mètres pour une hauteur d’environ 25 mètres. Elle se dresse à 1 km au sud du bourg, au lieu-dit la Garenne. Une petite dalle de grès qui affleure juste au sommet de la butte montre une cupule, qui a vraisemblablement provoqué la vénération de ce rocher naturel par les habitants des environs.

 

According to local tradition, Saint Martin passed by here with a sack full of earth on his back. The hood broke open and the earth fell to the ground, creating the mound.

The mound is 150 metres long and about 25 metres high. It stands 1 km south of the town, at a place called La Garenne. A small slab of sandstone which is just at the top of the mound shows a cupule, which probably provoked the veneration of this natural rock by the inhabitants of the area.
