L’église Saint-Martin de Saint-Valery-sur-Somme est attestée au XII^e siècle. L’église actuelle est construite au XIIIe siècle. Fortement abîmée durant la Guerre de Cent Ans et incendiée en 1475, car Louis XI avait ordonné la destruction de la ville, lors de sa guerre contre Charles le Téméraire. Elle est reconstruite entre la fin du XVe siècle et 1559, et est consacrée en 1500.

Construite en pierre avec des damiers de galets, l’église Saint-Martin a deux nefs jumelles séparées de grandes arcades. Un clocher est ajouté au XVIIIe siècle, avec une toiture pyramidale de 1786.

L’église abrite une statue de saint Martin du XVIIe siècle classée au titre objet aux Monuments historiques. PA00116250

The Saint-Martin church in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme dates back to the 12th century. The current church was built in the 13th century. Severely damaged during the Hundred Years War and burnt down in 1475, because Louis XI had ordered the destruction of the city, during his war against Charles the Bold. It was rebuilt between the end of the 15th century and 1559, and was consecrated in 1500.
Built in stone with pebble checkerboards, the Saint-Martin church has two twin naves separated by large arcades. A bell tower was added in the 18th century, with a pyramidal roof from 1786.
The church houses a 17th century statue of Saint Martin listed as a historical monument. PA00116250
