L’église Saint-Martin de Vitré est construite dans le style néo-roman entre 1867 et 1913, lors de l’établissement de nouveaux quartiers liés au développement de l’urbanisme au XIXe siècle.

L’église conserve deux statues de saint Martin. L’une, sur un pilier, où saint Martin figure en évêque, mitré, tenant sa crosse dans la main gauche et bénissant de la main droite. L’autre, dans une niche, où saint Martin est représenté en moine, barbu, tenant un bâton dans la main gauche et le crucifix dans la main droite.

Le fronton de la porte d’entrée présente une charité de saint Martin sculptée en bas-relief.

L’église est classée aux Monuments historiques le 5 mars 2013. PA35000053

The church of Saint Martin in Vitré was built in the neo-Romanesque style between 1867 and 1913, when new districts were established as a result of the development of urbanism in the 19th century.

The church has two statues of Saint Martin. One, on a pillar, depicts Saint Martin as a bishop, mitred, holding his crozier in his left hand and blessing with his right. The other, in a niche, depicts Saint Martin as a bearded monk, holding a staff in his left hand and the crucifix in his right.

The pediment of the entrance door features a bas-relief carving of Saint Martin.

The church was classified as a Historic Monument on 5 March 2013. PA35000053
