La légende veut que le bateau qui ramenait le corps de saint Martin, mort en 397, s’arrête de lui-même près de l’endroit où s’élève l’église actuelle, et qu’une petite chapelle y ait été édifiée en souvenir de ce miracle. Plus tard, vers 475, saint Perpet fait reconstruire la chapelle. Au XIIe siècle, sur l’emplacement de l’ancienne chapelle, on bâtit la première église. Elle est reconstruite en 1877 avec deux nefs égales et deux autels séparés. Le clocher s’est effondré en novembre 1993, puis reconstruit.

C’est un vitrail réalisé par A. Clément en 1878, il est restauré en 1996. Il a été donné à la paroisse par l’abbé Bert, curé du Pont-de-Bresme, dont le nom est écrit dans un ruban au registre inférieur.

Disposé dans le chœur de l’église, ce vitrail présente saint Martin, sur un cheval sombre, habillé en soldat romain, qui coupe de son épée, son manteau pour le donner à un pauvre, assis par terre, à moitié dévêtu et portant du bois sec. La scène est représentée en hiver, avec de la neige, et l’on voit en arrière-plan les rempart de la ville d’Amiens.

 

Legend has it that the boat carrying the body of Saint Martin, who died in 397, stopped by itself near the site of the present church, and that a small chapel was built there in memory of this miracle. Later, around 475, Saint Perpet had the chapel rebuilt. In the 12th century, the first church was built on the site of the old chapel. It was rebuilt in 1877 with two equal naves and two separate altars. The bell tower collapsed in November 1993 and was rebuilt.
The stained glass window was made by A. Clément in 1878 and restored in 1996. It was donated to the parish by Abbé Bert, parish priest of Pont-de-Bresme, whose name is written in a ribbon in the lower register.

Located in the choir of the church, this stained glass window shows Saint Martin, on a dark horse, dressed as a Roman soldier, cutting his cloak with his sword to give it to a poor man sitting on the ground, half-dressed and carrying dry wood. The scene is depicted in winter, with snow, and the ramparts of the city of Amiens can be seen in the background.
