L’actuelle église Saint-Martin de Besson est un édifice roman datant du XIIe siècle. Elle succède à une église qui dépendait du prieuré clunisien de Souvigny, puis, d’après un acte de 1077 de l’évêque de Clermont au prieur de Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule, l’église passe en possession de Saint-Philibert de Tournus.

L’église est vendue comme bien nationale durant la Révolution française et passe successivement en possession du marquis de Tilly et de la famille Bourbon-Busset, qui en fait don à la commune de Besson en 1824.

The present church of Saint-Martin de Besson is a Romanesque building dating from the 12th century. It is the successor to a church that depended on the Cluniac priory of Souvigny, then, according to a deed of 1077 from the bishop of Clermont to the prior of Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule, the church passed into the possession of Saint-Philibert de Tournus.

The church was sold as a national asset during the French Revolution and passed successively into the possession of the Marquis de Tilly and the Bourbon-Busset family, who donated it to the commune of Besson in 1824.

The church was classified as a historical monument in 1933. PA00093001
