Le fronton sur la façade extérieure de la porte du « Gautor », fortification construite vers 1650 autour de la ville de Mayence, figure une charité de saint Martin. Saint Martin est à cheval, coiffé d’un chapeau à plumes, en train de couper son manteau, et il est encadré de deux mendiants : l’un, à sa droite, est assis et tend sa main vers saint Martin ; l’autre, à sa gauche, est debout, marchant vers saint Martin, et levant la tête vers lui. Depuis 2002, ce groupe sculpté est conservé au Landesmuseum de Mayence et celui visible sur la porte du « Gautor » est une copie.

The pediment on the outer facade of the gate of the « Gautor », a fortification built around 1650 around the city of Mainz, depicts a charity of St Martin. Saint Martin is on horseback, wearing a feathered hat, cutting off his cloak, and he is flanked by two beggars: one, on his right, is sitting and holding out his hand to Saint Martin; the other, on his left, is standing, walking towards Saint Martin, and raising his head towards him. Since 2002, this carved group has been kept in the Landesmuseum in Mainz and the one on the door of the « Gautor » is a copy.
