La reconstruction du XIIIè siècle ne conserva de l’édifice primitif qu’une maçonnerie en appareil allongé, visible à la base du mur nord et qui peut être datée du IXè siècle. Précédée à l’ouest par une façade presque entièrement refaite lors d’une restauration en 1876-1879, la nef unique est divisée en trois travées couvertes de voûtes sexpartites (ce type de voûte est rare en Touraine).Les clefs de voûte de la première et seconde travée sont timbrées d’armoiries, dont l’écu de France à la deuxième. Celle de la troisième travée est ornée d’un médaillon représentant saint Martin partageant son manteau. Une quatrième travée, voûtée également d’une voûte sexpartite, continue la nef et correspond au clocher.

Un médaillon du XIIIe siècle, restauré à la fin du XIXe siècle, présente une charité de saint Martin. Le médaillon se situe sur la clef de voûte de la troisième travée. Le motif sculpté à partir du chœur représente saint Martin partageant son manteau avec un pauvre en arrière plan. Le cheval du saint est marron, saint Martin a une armure dorée.

L’église abrite également une statue de saint Martin représenté en évêque, la statue est blanche, les bordures de son vêtement sont dorées. Le bras gauche est cassé à l’avant bras, il manque donc la main et la crosse de l’évêque. Son autre main fait le geste de la bénédiction. Sur le socle, il est écrit « St Martin » en lettres bleues.

La sculpture d’une charité de saint Martin, en pierre, se situe au sommet du pignon de l’église Saint-Martin de Nouans-les-Fontaines. Elle est en mauvais état à cause des intempéries.  saint Martin à cheval qui regarde en contrebas le pauvre quasiment couché sur le sol et qui attrape le manteau d’une main.

L’église est inscrite sur la liste des Monuments Historiques par arrêté du 12 juin 1926 : PA00097897

La commune de Nouans-les-Fontaines abrite également un ruisseau Saint-Martin et une fontaine, qui est aujourd’hui un trou d’eau abandonné.

 

The reconstruction of the 13th century only preserved the masonry of the primitive building, visible at the base of the north wall, which can be dated to the 9th century. A medallion from the 13th century, restored at the end of the 19th century, shows a charity of Saint Martin. The medallion is located on the keystone of the third bay. The carved motif from the chancel depicts St Martin sharing his cloak with a poor man in the background. The saint’s horse is brown, St Martin has golden armour.
There is also a statue of St Martin as a bishop in the church, the statue is white, the borders of his garment are gold. The left arm is broken at the forearm, so the bishop’s hand and crook are missing. His other hand is making the gesture of blessing. On the base, it is written « St Martin » in blue letters.
The stone sculpture of a charity of St Martin is located at the top of the gable of the church of St Martin in Nouans-les-Fontaines. It is in poor condition due to the weather. St Martin on horseback looking down on the poor man lying on the ground and grabbing the cloak with one hand.

The commune of Nouans-les-Fontaines is also home to a Saint-Martin stream and a fountain, which is now an abandoned water hole.
