La première mention de l’église paroissiale Saint-Martin de Contest se trouve dans l’approbation par l’évêque du Mans Guy de Ploërmel de la donation de la moitié de l’église, du presbytère, des dîmes et oblations de Contest faite par Jehan de Rorgon à l’abbaye de Marmoutier. L’ensemble de l’église est reconstruite au XVe siècle. La nef est agrandie et un clocher est ajouté en 1880-1881. Le tympan de l’église abrite un bas-relief figurant une charité de saint Martin. Il est représenté à cheval, casqué et nimbé, l’épée dans la main droite levée. Il est tourné vers le mendiant, barbu, qui se tient derrière la croupe du cheval.

The first mention of the parish church of Saint-Martin de Contest is found in the approval by Guy de Ploërmel, Bishop of Le Mans, of the donation by Jehan de Rorgon to Marmoutier Abbey of half the church, the presbytery and the tithes and oblations of Contest.
