Rue des Fossés Saint-Pierre, au Mans, est visible le vestige de la Porte Saint-Martin, qui était l’une des entrées de la ville, et l’une des trois porte de l’enceinte gallo-romaine, qui date du IVe siècle. Elle est reconstruite au XIIIe siècle suite à un accident mais perd peu à peu sa fonction, étant remplacée par la porte sous la collégiale.

La porte est constituée de deux baies. L’arcade centrale de la porte a une largeur de 3,90m sur une profonde de 1,83m avec une hauteur de plus de 3m. L’arcade située à gauche est un peu plus petite avec une largeur de 2,72m et une hauteur de 3,20m. La façade de la porte mesurait 16m.

In the Rue des Fossés Saint-Pierre, in Le Mans, you can see the remains of the Porte Saint-Martin, which was one of the entrances to the town and one of the three gates in the Gallo-Roman city walls, dating back to the 4th century. It was rebuilt in the 13th century following an accident, but gradually lost its function, being replaced by the gate beneath the collegiate church.

The gate consists of two bays. The central arcade of the doorway is 3.90m wide and 1.83m deep, with a height of over 3m. The arcade to the left is slightly smaller, measuring 2.72 m wide and 3.20 m high. The front of the door measured 16m.
