La « porta di San Stefano », l’une des quatre portes de la ville de Martina Franca, est surplombée d’une sculpture de la charité de saint Martin, afin de commémorer le siège des Cappelletti. Selon la légende, saint Martin est intervenu le 16 juin 1529 avec saint Antoine de Padoue et une compagnie de cavalerie pour sauver Martina Franca des mercenaires dirigés par Fabrizio Marramaldo lors du siège de l’église Cappelletti. En souvenir, l’arc porte également le nom de « porte de saint Antoine ». Cet arc baroque, construit en 1764, prend la place d’un autre arc du XIVe siècle.

 

The « porta di San Stefano », one of the four gates of the city of Martina Franca, is overhung by a sculpture of the charity of St. Martin, to commemorate the siege of the Cappelletti. According to legend, St. Martin intervened on June 16, 1529 with St. Anthony of Padua and a company of cavalry to save Martina Franca from the mercenaries led by Fabrizio Marramaldo during the siege of the Cappelletti church. In memory of this, the arch is also known as the « Gate of Saint Anthony ». This baroque arch, built in 1764, replaces another arch from the 14th century.
