Sumartin, sur l’île de Brac, est fondé en 1646 par des réfugiés de Makarska fuyant les invasions turques. Une première église Saint-Martin est construite en 1747 par le frère Andrija Kacic Miosic, abbé du monastère franciscain de Sumartin et poète. L’actuelle église est construite en 1911 et 1913, mais le clocher a été détruit par les bombardements anglo-américains en 1944. L’ensemble est reconstruit et agrandi en 1955.

Sumartin, on the island of Brac, was founded in 1646 by refugees from Makarska fleeing the Turkish invasions. The first church of St. Martin was built in 1747 by Brother Andrija Kacic Miosic, abbot of the Franciscan monastery in Sumartin and poet. The present church was built in 1911 and 1913, but the bell tower was destroyed by Anglo-American bombing in 1944. It was rebuilt and extended in 1955.
