Cette église a été fondée au 13e siècle sous le patronage du chapitre de Saint-Martin de Tours. Elle fut incendiée par les Anglais en 1356 et 1412. Par la suite l’édifice fut agrandi et restauré à la demande du seigneur de Berault puis par Robert Stuart.la ville ayant appartenu à cette grande famille écossaise durant plusieurs siècles En 1513, ce dernier fit construire une chapelle latérale qui fut restaurée en 1880 par Octave et Paul Guerrin (architectes).
L’ abside, la nef, le transept sont du 13e siècle. Le clocher-porche est du 15e siècle. Les chapelles latérales ont été édifiées pour Robert Stuart en 1513. Le monument possède trois vaisseaux ; sa nef, couverte de voutes sexpartites, son transept et son abside date du 13e siècle. Au 17e siècle un clocher porche fut construit sur une voie de circulation, il remplaça la flèche de la croisée du transept détruite par la foudre en 1636. Le chœur, de forme ogivale, abrite deux belles statues de bois et des autels. Parmi eux, le maître-autel de 1871, orné de bas-reliefs qui racontent la vie de saint Martin.
This church was founded in the 13th century under the patronage of the chapter of Saint-Martin de Tours. It was burnt down by the English in 1356 and 1412. The building was subsequently enlarged and restored at the request of the Lord of Berault and then by Robert Stuart, as the town had belonged to this great Scottish family for several centuries. In 1513, the latter had a side chapel built which was restored in 1880 by Octave and Paul Guerrin (architects).
The apse, nave and transept date from the 13th century. The bell tower-porch is from the 15th century. The side chapels were built for Robert Stuart in 1513. The monument has three vessels; its nave, covered with sexpartite vaults, its transept and its apse date from the 13th century. In the 17th century a porch belfry was built over a thoroughfare, replacing the spire of the transept crossing destroyed by lightning in 1636. The ogival choir houses two beautiful wooden statues and altars. Among them, the high altar of 1871, decorated with bas-reliefs telling the life of Saint Martin.
