Selon la tradition locale, saint Martin serait venu à Veigné pour christianiser un lieu de culte païen, petit édifice qui protégeait la fontaine sacrée, qu’il détruisit. Il le remplaça par un oratoire au toit de chaume, sur la source même, qu’il dédia à saint Laurent. Celui-ci laissa la place, vers le XIe siècle, à un édifice en pierre, reconstruit au XVIe siècle : c’est l’actuelle chapelle désaffectée depuis 1867. Une inscription rappelait que la chapelle était propriété de la basilique Saint-Martin.

According to local tradition, Saint Martin came to Veigné to Christianise a pagan place of worship, a small building which protected the sacred fountain, which he destroyed. He replaced it with a thatched oratory on the spring itself, which he dedicated to Saint Laurent. This was replaced, around the 11th century, by a stone building, rebuilt in the 16th century: this is the present chapel, which has been disused since 1867. An inscription reminds us that the chapel was the property of the Saint-Martin basilica.
